Frequently asked questions
- How do I change language? Open the language menu in the app and select your preferred language. The first launch also follows the device language when supported.
- Why did the app ask for notifications? Notifications are optional and are requested only when you create a checklist reminder. You can change permission in Settings > Notifications > China Step by Step.
- Why did the app ask for microphone and speech-recognition access? These permissions are requested only when you tap voice input in Live Translation. They turn your speech into text. You can continue using typed translation without granting them.
- Why does translation need a connection? Translation runs on device, but Apple may need to download the selected language model the first time. Speech recognition may also use Apple's service when on-device recognition is unavailable.
- Why is Chinese speech unavailable? Check that the device volume is on. Speech is produced by Apple's on-device speech service and does not use the microphone.
- How do I delete my trip information? Delete or replace fields in Travel Card, reset the checklist where available, or delete the app to remove all locally stored app data.
- Why does an external app link not open? Confirm that the third-party app is available in your App Store region. You can also search for its official name directly in the App Store.
Privacy and safety
Trip details, checklist items, favorites, progress, exchange-rate preferences, and translation text are not uploaded to a developer server. Voice input may be processed on device or by Apple's speech-recognition service. See the Privacy Policy for details.
