Privacy Policy

Summary

China Step by Step does not require an account, does not contain advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not collect or sell personal data. The app's guides and most tools work offline. Voice input and first-time translation-language downloads may require a network connection.

Information stored on your device

If you choose to use the app's tools, the app may store your language, guide progress, favorites, checklist items, reminder identifiers, manual exchange-rate preferences, and optional travel-card details such as your name, hotel address, flight, emergency contact, and allergy note. This information is saved locally using Apple's device storage and is not sent to a developer-operated server.

Permissions and system services

• Notifications: Requested only when you choose to schedule a checklist reminder. Apple delivers the reminder locally.
• Microphone: Requested only after you tap the voice-input button in Live Translation. Audio capture stops when you stop recording or leave the translation screen. The developer does not receive or store microphone recordings.
• Speech recognition: Used only to convert speech into translation input. Recognition may occur on device or through Apple's speech-recognition service, depending on device and language availability. Audio and recognized text are handled under Apple's applicable privacy terms and are not sent to a developer-operated server.
• Translation: Translation text is processed on device by Apple's Translation framework. Apple may collect limited API usage and performance information, such as the app identifier and language pair, but Apple states that this does not include the original or translated content. The first use of a language may require downloading a language model.
• Text-to-speech: The phrasebook and translation result can use Apple's text-to-speech service. Playback does not use the microphone.
• External links and calls: When you choose a download, website, map, or telephone button, iOS opens the relevant Apple or third-party service. Its own privacy policy then applies.

Deleting your data

You can edit or clear tool fields inside the app. Deleting China Step by Step from your device removes its locally stored data. Microphone, speech recognition, and notification permissions can be changed in iOS or iPadOS Settings.

Children, security, and changes

The app is a general travel utility and is not directed to children. Because the developer does not receive your locally stored entries, please protect access to your device and avoid storing unnecessary sensitive details. This policy may be updated when app features change; the effective date above will be revised.
